FIRST PRIORITY SECURITY GUARD TRAINING – is certified by the California Department of Consumer Affairs – Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BS(S) to provide exposed firearm permit qualification courses. Course fee is $75 for qualification course $20 each additional caliber qualification after the 1st caliber.

The BSIS requires all Exposed Firearm Permit holders to complete four (4) range qualifications during the 2-year period of the license FROM THE DATE OF ISSUANCE OF THE LICENSE.
Range qualifications two (2) during each 12-month period of the current 2-year license period.
NO TWO RANGE QUALIFICATIONS CAN BE WITHIN 4 MONTHS APART.
The BSIS strongly suggests the renewal class and shoot be 5 months apart. (a good idea is between 4-6 months with no requalification class being longer than 6 months apart).
Each qualification requires a mandatory 2-hour Use of Force & De-Escalation of Force course.
The firearms examination is required once a year and can be taken at either of your 2 annual requalification classes. Passing score of 86% is required.
Firearms permit renewal application by law MUST be submitted at least 60 days prior to expiration. Renewal Applications received by the BSIS prior to 90-day expiration will be returned.
AN EXPIRED PERMIT CAN NOT BE RENEWED – YOU MUST START OVER WITH A NEW APPLICATION
Renewal applicants ensure you submit BSIS Form 4040A (Biennial Firearms Permit Qualification Application (2 copies) with your BSIS Firearms Permit Renewal Application. (complete set of forms at (https://www.bsis.ca.gov/forms_pubs/fq_renewal.pdf )
